Conference overview

The DKG '23 will take place from September 19th to September 23rd, 2023 in Frankfurt am Main.

In the following, you will find information on:

Call for Papers

The call for papers is open from January 23rd to March 27th, 2023.

More than 275 sessions have been organised and submitted to DKG ’23. We now invite geographers as well as scholars and researchers from neighbouring disciplines to get involved in paper sessions, lightning sessions or panels by submitting their abstracts to the conference website.

How do I submit a presentation?

When submitting a presentation via our conference portal, please include the following information:

Please refer to our style guide when preparing your submission.

You can submit directly by clicking here or via the button at the end of each session description. For the submission you need to create an account in our congress software system (Converia) if you have not already registered in the course of the call for sessions.

How do I find a suitable session?

Select “show only English-language calls” in the sessions overview. Use the keyword search to find specific terms or names.

When you have found a suitable session, please take note of the five-digit reference number of the respective session for the submission of your abstract.

When submitting, please note that some sessions (approx. 10%) will be Lightning Sessions with a larger number (approx. 10) of short talks. Lightning Sessions are marked as such in the title.

How many presentations can I submit?

The number of “appearances” per person at the congress is limited to three (for example, two presentations and one session chair or no session chair and three presentations). However, chairing and presenting in the same session counts as only one “appearance”.

Can I also give my presentation online?

The DKG ‘23 is planned as an in-person congress. Presentations will be given on site.

What happens after the presentation submission?

After the end of the call for papers on March 27th, 2023, you will be informed by the session chairs regarding the acceptance of your contribution.

What happens if my presentation is not accepted by the session chair?

In the rare case of not being accepted by the session chairs, we will relocate the paper to a different session with a more suitable topic.

Can I still submit sessions?

It is still possible to submit fully “pre-organised” sessions until March 27th, 2023. “Pre-organised” means that both the session chair and the speakers have been determined. If you wish to submit a session, please contact the organisation team by email.

Style guide

We strive for clarity and a uniform appearance in the design of the programme and the online information.

Therefore, please note the following when preparing your abstracts:

Title

Please refrain from using title case for English-language titles.

Quotation marks

In English-language texts, please use standard double quotation marks. In German-language texts, please use German inverted comma quotation marks.

Gender-inclusive language

Please refrain from using gender-specific terms wherever possible. Use “they” as a generic singular pronoun instead of “his”.

Citation

When citing, please use the Chicago Manual of Style (author-date) as a guide. Please feel free to use this CSL file for importing into your literature management software.

German-language texts should cite using a German variant of the Chicago Manual of Style specification (author-date).

Hyphenation

Please mark desired hyphenation points in long words (especially in titles) with a soft hyphen. This makes it easier to display the text correctly in many formats.

DKG '23

The 62nd German Congress of Geography is abbreviated as “DKG '23”. A simple apostrophe is used (no `backtick` or other special characters). If possible, there is a thin space between G and apostrophe, otherwise no space.
