Abstract
Large-scale infrastructure projects with profound socio-environmental changes are often associated and pushed through under the veil of economic growth and regional development. Currently under construction, the world’s largest immersed underwater rail and road tunnel, namely the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, remains no exception to this. While claimed to be a brilliant engineering performance of EU integration, the infrastructure project raised concerns regarding socio-ecological impacts and thus sparked local resistance from various actors of civil society.
